CES was "over the top!" See my blog entry below or subscribe to the RSS feed. We've started producing video segments of Media 3.0 covering popular topics. I've included a link to one below via Revver.com. We are in the process of creating a "rich media" community for all of us, but for now you can find them on www.media30.com, Revver, YouTube and wherever fine user generated content is free. For those of you who want your Media 3.0 content anytime, anywhere on any device, you can subscribe to the weekly Media 3.0 Podcast by clicking here.
In other news, the reporters at Marketwatch think Apple TV has potential to threaten cable. It's not a question of "if," simply when. <more>
And, from the "we're not as tough as we look" department, the FCC has denied a request by Comcast that the agency extend its July 1 deadline for changing how the industry manufactures set-top boxes. The FCC and electronics makers want the cable industry to adopt standard technology rather than the "cable cards" system that they say gives cable carriers a competitive advantage. <more>
And even though over 50% of the HDTV sets in America are not hooked up correctly and, therefore don't actually display HD pictures, three of the biggest names in cable say they will launch HD networks by the end of the year. The offerings from NBC Universal, CNN and Turner cover a range of brands such as USA, Sci Fi, FX, CNN and the Cartoon Network. <more>
NATPE starts on Monday night, so I hope to see all of you there.
I leave you with an image of a device you absolutely don't need, has no actual value, is completely without purpose, will never work as designed, BUT ... is absolutely irresistible. What's more, the service offering is from a carrier that offers "anytime" minutes ... as in, any time you can get a signal. No matter how many intellectual objections I have to the iPhone (which will need a new name because Cisco owns the trademark to iPhone), emotionally I HAVE to have one! Only Steve Jobs could twist my arm hard enough to make me get a mobile device from Cingular -- way to go Steve! Have a great week.
There are two important trade conferences coming up that you will want to attend. First is the FutureTV Show North America which takes place January 29 & 30 in New York. I'll be moderating the opening panel of the event. There will be some very informative presentations by many members of the Media 3.0 community. Rick Mandler, Chris Pizzurro, Terry Denson and Dale Herigstad to name a few. It should be a great show.
Then, March 19-22, 2007 plan your trip to San Jose for the Video on the Net Conference. This is, without question, the "must attend" conference of the year. Everyone you know (or want to know) will be attending and presenting. If you work in the digital video industry, you will do business at this conference. Register early with the promotional code "palmer" to receive a substantial courtesy delegates discount.
